Abstract

Personal ups and downs are appropriate responses to the ups and downs of life. However, some experiences emotional extremes in moods and disturbed their normal life. Individuals who have depression at times and mania or hypomania at others are called manic-depressive and the combination is known as Manic-Depressive Psychosis (MDP). This study attempts to look at bipolar disorder and Manic-Depressive Psychosis (MDP) from the Western approaches as well as from the Islamic point of view. The treatments proposed by both streams are also provided.
