Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the role of values-based leadership and its contribution in enhancing leadership ability. This study also aimed to address why individuals in leadership positions fail to lead according to their own personal values and how this influences decision-making. A qualitative research approach and purposive sampling was employed. Data were collected through 15 semi-structured interviews and thematic analysis was used for analysing the data. The findings were that value systems have an impact on how a leader deals with problems in the different situations that arise within the day-to-day operations of the organisation.
