This study describes on line, the identification process and the model reference adaptive control. The developed method uses, in a complementary manner, both parametric and no parametric identification techniques. Our algorithm permits the identification of discrete systems with an optimal search of their orders. The method performance has been tested on simulated systems of order 1, 2 and 3 with a pseudo-random binary sequence (PRBS) as an excitation input. After the identification, a model reference adaptive control is used. The performance of the developed adaptive control is tested by means of a simulated example.
