This study examines the current trends in the reform of local self-government in Russia in connection with the advent of new Federal regulation which has led to the emergence of new types of municipalities and urban districts with inner division (existing as municipalities). Special attention focuses on the new opportunities of subjects of the Russian Federation on redistribution of powers between bodies of state power and local self-government. Based on the identified patterns a forecast is offered regarding further development of relations between state authorities and local self-government in Russia.
