The main purpose of this study is predicting motivational beliefs (academic self-concept and task value) and cognitive engagement of traditional and distance education students based on social structure of education and perception of educational environments. Investigating the current differences in the field of study variables among these two groups of students also was one of this researchs implicit goals. Study sample was 700 students (350 distance education students and 350 traditional students) that were chosen through multi-stage cluster sampling and answered a questionnaire including sub-scales of the task value and cognitive engagement questionnaire MSLQ of Pintrich, Smith, Garcia and Mc Catchy, Ronalds academic self-concept scale, Blackburns class structure perception scale and researcher made questionnaire in the field of social structure of education and educational expectations. Pearson correlation coefficient, independent t-test and multiple regressions were used for analyzing data.
