Abstract

The study attempts a critical analysis of the reasons cited by America for her invasion of Panama in December 1989. It examines a plethora of arguments for and against the United States` thesis. The study concludes that the event may best be described as a paradox given the fact of its violation of certain principles of international law while it also brought relief to the traumatised and oppressed peoples of Panama under the tyrannical reign of terror of Manuel Noriega, the erstwhile maximum ruler of Panama.
