Health Care and Social Needs of the Elderly: Assessed by the Tool Camberwell Assessment of Need for the Elderly

Abstract

In almost every country, the proportion of people aged over 60 years is growing faster than any other age group. So, it is important to assess their needs based on standard tools. To assess the health care and social needs among the elderly people aged 60 years and above by using the tool Camberwell Assessment of Need for the Elderly. It is cross sectional study. About 305 elderly selected from 7 villages based on Probability Proportional to Size method. Most of the unmet needs among the elderly were in the areas of accommodation (59.3%), eyesight/hearing (58%), benefits (54.1%), day time activities (48.9%) and physical health (42.9%), large numbers of health care and social needs are unmet. Hence, greater and targeted elderly primary care services need to be provided.
