Abstract
UTI is one of the most common medical complications of pregnancy together with anemia and hypertension and it occurs approximately in 5-10% of all pregnancies. The aim of this study was to determine the distribution of uropathogens isolated from pregnant women. During the study period, 255 pregnant women urine samples were analysed. Urinary tract infection was diagnosed by growth of at least 105 colony-forming units of a urinary tract pathogen per milliliter in a culture of a midstream urine sample. After 24-48 h incubation organisms verified by biochemical tests. The results show that the 10.58% of pregnant women have UTI and most agent of UTI in these group was E. coli. UTIs may be more serious during pregnancy because they are more likely to travel to the kidneys. If a UTI is not treated promptly in a pregnant woman, she may be more likely to have problems like high blood pressure or premature delivery of her baby.
