Abstract

Exercise can increase glucose uptake into skeletal muscle through an insulin-like effect. Mechanisms that control the homeostasis of glucose during muscle contracting, have not been known completely, but in the past several years significant progress about understanding of molecular basis of exercise effects has been provided. A central issue in exercise biology is to elucidate the underlying molecular signaling mechanisms that regulate important metabolic and transcriptional events in skeletal muscle that lead to reduction of blood glucose and improvement of impaired insulin action in diabetic people.
