Polysaccharides from solid wastes of tomato-processing industry (Lycopersicon esculentum "Hybrid Rome") were extracted using a simple and rapid method, purified and chemically characterized. The yield of biopolymers represented 7,5 % of lyophilised biomass. Solid, clear, elastic and biodegradable films were obtained from this natural and renewable source of polysaccharides.
