Abstract

Education has become the most important and powerful instrument for reducing poverty and inequality as well as for laying the basis for a sustainable economic growth in modern societies. This has made it mandatory for all member countries of the United Nations to make education accessible to all their citizens irrespective of their social, economic or physical conditions. This study therefore highlights the state of special education institutions for the exceptional children in Nigeria. Suggestions for making education not only accessible but also serving as a means of developing the potentialities of the exceptional children are also made.
