Most IEEE 802.11 based ad hoc networks do not support a node to perform simultaneous communications because there is only one wireless network interface card (NIC) at a node and multi-channel operation is not allowed in IEEE 802.11 ad hoc mode. In this study a novel multi-channel multi-NIC based scheme is proposed for IEEE 802.11 ad hoc networks. The novel framework and function of multi-NIC management layer (MML) are described. Qualitative analysis results shows that the overall saturation throughput of the network is linearly increased with the number of NICs per node.
