Abstract

Using a descriptive survey design, the study investigated into the factors responsible for examination malpractice among secondary school students in Christian Religious Education (CRE) in Obollo-Afor educational zone of Enugu State, Nigeria. The study made use of 165 randomly sampled students out of the entire population of (4127) Senior Secondary 1 (SS1) students in 46 government senior secondary schools that make up the three Local Government Areas of Udenu, Igbo-Eze South and Igbo-Eze North in Obollo-Afor educational zone of Enugu State. Three research questions and three hypothesis guided the study. A well structured questionnaire was used to elicit information from the students while mean, standard deviation and t-test of independent sample were used to analyze the data gathered. Some findings of the analyzed data revealed that poor pedagogical practices inadequacy and poor implementation of curriculum and student’s poor attitudes to learning are the factors that instigate examination malpractice in Obollo-Afor educational zone of Enugu State.
