Academic entrepreneurship possesses its distinct identity in the field of entrepreneurship. The study identifies a gap that there is no unified definition of the field. This study focuses on the current literature and the development in the field of academic entrepreneurship with specific focus on the definition of the academic entrepreneurship and how it is different from other fields of entrepreneurship. The definition is proposed on the basis of current literature with the dimensions of opportunity recognition, opportunity exploitation, economic value and social value. The study fills the gap by overcoming the fragmented definitions of the field. This will help the future researchers conduct quantitative research in the field of academic entrepreneurship. The study puts forward some important questions to be answered in future research.
