Pseudomonas is one of the most common pathogens causing nosocomial infections. Acquired drug resistance is frequent in nosocomial isolates of Pseudomonas and often involves more than one antimicrobial class. Why worrisome in recent years, MBL genes have spread from Pseudomonas to member of Enterobacteriaceae. They have not only therapeutic problem but is also a serious concern for infection control management. In this study January to march 597 strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates from various samples (blood, pus, urine and body fluids) were included in study. Pseudomonas was identify using colony morphology, gram stain, oxidation test, biochemical reaction. These strains were tested for Imipenem resistance by Kirby bauer disc diffusion method. Result was interpreted as per CLSI guidelines. In this study, total no of pseudomonas 579 (57.9%) isolated. 73 (12.6%) strains were metallobetalactamase among 579 isolated Pseudomonas aeruginosa. IN this study 2011 January, February and March total Pseudomonas aeruginosa 597 postive73 MBL positive isolate. Over the last decade, most of the studies were on different methods of MBL detection in Pseudomonas, Though MIC detection is gold standard, DDST and CDST are comparable with the former and at the same time are simple, reliable and cheap, as per previous reports. Therefore, these tests can be used in a small laboratory set up. Pseudomonas aeruginosa was common MBL producing isolates in our study.
