Abstract

This study focuses on gender socialization and female roles in Nigeria. It shows how both of these interact with the process of globalization to put women at a disadvantage economically. Ethnographic data were collected on a small sample of women in Lagos; the largest city in Nigeria. Using the case study approach, the general predicament of women, is discussed. Finally, some suggestions are made on ways in, which the situation can be altered.
