Food Handling Practices of Turkish Women Living in Ankara

Abstract

In this research, safe food handling practices of 500 married Turkish women living in Ankara,Turkey was searched. 81.4% of women stated that washing hands before food handling was very important. 54.8% of women used drying towel. 31.2% of women used the same cutting board for raw and cooked food. 85.8% of women cleaned kitchen counters each time after they used. 86.8% washed fruit and vegetables and 98.1% washed chicken before cooking. 53.4% of women knew that the temperature of refrigerator should be between 1-5°C. 89.2% of women cooled food in room temperature. 54.6% of women kept leftovers in a few small cups in refrigerator. 48.4% of women thawed frozen meat on the counter in the room temperature.
