Research indicates that computer-mediated communication (CMC) is a great motivator of learning for the student (Gatlin-Watts et al., 1998). However, my experience communicating with students through the Web indicates very divided student reactions to this manner of communication. In view of a relative lack of literature in the area, this research investigates students` reactions to the Blackboard™-facilitated CMC, their understanding of the potentials, problems and improvement of this CMC and possible factors that contribute to the mixed student reactions to the CMC. Population for this study was the nearly 100 students involved in my teaching which uses the e-learning technology of Blackboard™.
