Abstract
Nine Sudanese male sheep, two years old, were subjected to three different nutritional conditions. Animals were either fed alfa alfa, alfa alfa mixed with grains or fasted for 72 hours. Serum lipids and tissue lipogenic enzymes were determined. The serum lipids of the fasted group was found to be 2-fold of that of the fed sheep, while free fatty acids and ketone bodies were found to be 10-fold that of the fed sheep. The activity of the lipogenic enzymes were also affected with fasting where the activity of glucose- phosphate dehydrogenase and citrate cleavage enzymes were higher than that of the fed sheep, while malate dehydrogenase showed slight change.
