AB  - The role of local governments in physical planning in the Nigerian cities have been emphasized. The contributions of local governments to planning in the cities have been traced to 1900 with the subsequent evolution of legal backings. It was concluded that the local government system in Nigeria needs reconfiguration for effective physical development, especially in the area financing. Suggestions were put forward as to solution of these problems.
