AB - The core elements of the neo-institutionalist approach assumes economic growth as a peculiar
process not liable to be copied by institutions in so far as the individual characteristics of each institutional
trajectory are not reproduced due to its history and scenery and therefore, its configuration cannot be
reproduced given the factual situations. This study approach discusses the main contributions of researchers
like Hodgson, Thellen, North, Mahoney and Thellen and Chang and Evans about the institutions and the
paradigm of change. The processes of change are presented and discussed in view of public policies and the
processes of institutional change. The perception of change shows that economic, political and social
institutions as well as the interaction of agents, financial resources and technology define the performance and
the institutional development.
