AB - This study analyses the role of FDI in the transformation of Wuhan city from a predominantly heavy manufacturing economy into a tertiary and modernising city. The study has 3 major objectives: to explore the inflows of FDI into the city, to assess the impact of the inflows of FDI on urban restructuring and to assess whether Wuhan’s restructuring has spurred economic development in China’s western interior. It is impossible to examine the full range of the impact of globalisation on urban restructuring due to the limit of space. This study thus, will focus on FDI and the CBD which is currently under construction as the major globalising influences driving urban restructuring in Wuhan city.
