AB  - Burnout is a work-related phenomenon common in almost all professions, especially in the helping
ones and is linked with undesirable consequences in employees. For this reason, it is essential to prevent it.
The purpose of the present paper is to analyze the relationship between emotional intelligence and burnout
among secondary teachers. The study is situated in the Spanish context where these kinds of investigations
are needed. A cross-sectional survey-based study is conducted. The main results show that teacher with
emotional intelligence abilities suffer less burnout hence the important role played by emotional intelligence
in preventing teacher burnout. The implications for educational processes and teacher training are discussed
in the conclusion.
