AB - Recently Translation studies has focused on the role of translators in cultural communications and emphasized on the translator’s gender as one of the factors which impacts the work of translation. This paper has examined Jhumpa lahiris novel entitled The Namesake and its two Persian translations one done by a female, Gita Garakani and the other by a male, Amir Mehdi Haghighat to investigate the role of gender in terms of social status and cultural meaning. This is a mixed method research which with the use of manipulation strategies tries to find out to what extent each translator is loyal to the source text. Data illuminate the female translator has been more faithful to the source text than the male one.
