AB - An experimental rig facility has been designed and constructed to study heat transfer enhancement
of kerosene with polymer flow in the developing region in an 80 mm ID 6 m long pipe. The temperature at all
sections and at pipe wall as well as the velocity of working fluid through all pipe sections are measured with
different concentration ratio of polymer additive. It was found that the polymer additive has a clear effect on
heat transfer coefficient and Nusselt number in the fully developed region under turbulent flow conditions. The
heat transfer coefficient is affected Reynolds number and thermal conductivity of pipe material. Results show
that the heat transfer coefficient decreases with increasing the amount of polymer concentration. Also, the
coefficient of heat transfer decreases with increasing Reynolds number. It was found that reduction percentage
values of heat transfer coefficient due to the concentration ratio of polymer additive are about 42-52.7% than
the percentage values without polymer additive. A good agreement is seen between these results and the
available resultsin the literature.
