AB - The influence of damping element on the parametric instability of a narrow loom beat-up mechanism is investigated. The mechanism is modeled as a SDOF Second-Order differential equation. The model is subjected to two forcing functions; the turning effect of the driving shaft and the resulting impact on the system due to the beat-up action of the beater. In this study, the function for describing the input forcing functions on SDOF beater system is an arbitrary one and the transient response is expressed as a functional relation with time using Laplace transform. The complete solutions for the transient response are developed for five cases of the damping coefficient. A range of parameters for the damping coefficient required to stabilize the system was obtained.
