AB  - Meta-heuristics, are increasingly being applied by many researchers to solve scheduling problems. In this study, we discuss 5 unique characteristics of meta-heuristics that have endeared them to researchers. These are: ability to escape local optima, obtain better solution quality, solve larger instances of problems, suitable for multi-objective scheduling problems and have wide applicability.
