AB - Future wireless services for tourism destinations will be implemented using several network technologies focusing on the prospective standardization and specification efforts. Current Destination Management Systems (DMS) span wide areas with heterogeneous tourism destination information resources. Recently, intelligent DMS are aware of different user context environments and satisfy the matchmaking between the mobile user requirements and destination information via various wireless services. This study discusses the evolving wireless technology and the forthcoming applications on long haul tourism destinations. It examines the implications of wireless technology on long haul destinations. Using the Porter`s value chain analysis, light is shed on the future developments and potential alterations with regards to the primary and support activities within the value chain. Finally, future prospects in wireless multimedia communications such as MMS, multimedia browsing, rich call-personal real-time communication and mobile messaging are discussed.
