AB - This study investigated married persons’ culture of reading on reduction of marital stress. The sample comprised 71 male and 129 female married persons in Botswana. Their mean age was 37.71 years (SD±7.15.) Data were collected with semi- structured interview and focus group techniques. The research design was a descriptive survey that used quantitative and qualitative analyses. Four findings emerged from the descriptive statistical analysis of data. Firstly, only few participants of the study (88) had read materials that could empower them to reduce marital stress. Secondly, there was no significant influence of gender on participants’ use of reading to deduce information on reduction of marital stress. Thirdly, there was no significant influence of gender on perceived effectiveness of Bibliotherapy in reducing marital stress. Finally, participants made nine major suggestions on how to promote reading on reduction of marital stress; with shared reading emerging as the modal suggestion. These findings were discussed and recommendations emphasized the need to restructure the current reading patterns of married persons in Botswana.
