AB - This study examined the impact of social support and satisfaction
level on the well-being of informal caregivers of physically challenged children
in South-Western Nigeria. Data were collected using Social Support Scale (SSS)
developed by George, Blazer, Hughes and Fowler, to measure caregivers’
social support and satisfaction level. The 18-item versions of Ryff’s
psychological well-being scale were also used to measure caregiver’s
well-being. However, this study is based on data from a large study on determinants
of well-being of informal caregivers of physically challenged children in southwest
Nigeria. Results indicate that social supports predict well-being of informal
caregivers. The results further indicate that adequate support enhances satisfaction
level of caregivers with support received. Therefore, the study recommends that
various avenues of social support to caregivers of physically challenged children
be strengthened so as to bring about more satisfaction to caregivers.
