AB  - Any linear block code can be determined by a number of parameters, the important one, that determines the detection/correction capability of the code, is the minimum weight. The determination of minimum weight for a given linear block code is a complex process. Thus, in this study a new method for determining this parameter is proposed which is based on the Genetic Algorithm. Two representation schemes are used and analyzed. The first one requires the use of the generator matrix of a linear block code and the second uses the parity check matrix.
