AB  - Epidemiological and clinical trials concerning cancers have received enormous attention and financial support because cancers continue to be the most death leading health problem in developed and developing countries. However, it is a challenge to investigate the role of nutrition in prevention of cancers due to involvement of multifactors. A group of organic micronutrients including ascorbic acid, retinoic acid, pyridoxine, methionine, folate, cobalamin, and choline are known as methyl donors and shown to inhibit carcinogenesis. Mechanisms by which these substances directly and indirectly inhibit carcinogenesis include formations of intermediary metabolites that inhibit nucleic acid synthesis, prevent tissues from autooxidative damages, and enhance regenerating process of tissues. In this mini-review, current information on the roles of folate, cobalamin, and choline in inhibition of carcinogenesis were presented.
