abstract = {The mushrooming of unauthorized colony due
to population explosion in India poses a possible health
hazards to people living nearby transmission towers as RF
radiation produces thermal effects and remained under
their continuous influence for a long time can produces
various health related problems. In this research paper,
assessment of electromagnetic waves has been carried out
by measuring the received field strength at different
distances and has been compared with the available
International standards. In order to execute this research
work we have considered five All India Radio and
Doordarshan stations located in Punjab and Jammu and
Kashmir, i.e., Northern region of India. Chosen stations or
sites are operating at different power level ranges from
100-10000 W and transmitting the EM wave with
different transmitting antenna heights, i.e., from 45 m to
200 m. Field Strength measurement has been carried out
by using the Anritsu Site Master and Anritsu make
Antenna. In our findings, all the broadcasting stations
sites found to be well within compliance limits set by
International agencies but on increasing the receiving
antenna height the received field strength in vicinity start
to increase correspondingly. So, due to this increase in
received signal strength high rise building near the
transmitting towers could pose some health hazards.
Some warning sign near the transmitting site should be
installed on the identified locations in order to educate
people for possible effects and remedies.}
