    abstract = {The edible nuts samples (n: 217) were examined for total aerobic mesophilic bacteria, coliforms, <I>Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus-micrococcus </I>sp., mould, yeast, <I>Clostridium perfringens, Salmonella </I>sp. and <I>Bacillus cereus. </I>The highest range of bacterial count was noticed in water melon seed (3.9×10<SUP>6</SUP> cfu g <SUP>1</SUP>) and the lowest range in melon seeds (1.0×10<SUP>3 </SUP>cfu g <SUP>1</SUP>). The existence of coliforms, <I>Bacillus cereus, Clostridium perfringens, Escherichia coli </I>and <I>Salmonella </I>sp., in the samples were found as 21.2, 16.13, 8.76, 2.77 and  2.77%, respectively.}
