Issues arising from the TPPA are not only within the domain of trade but also involve other important aspects such as labour standards, the environment and intellectual property rights. This study focusses on labour issues. As this study highlights, a significant issue is to examine the impact of the TPPA on Malaysia’s existing labour laws. Does Malaysia need to maintain the existing labour framework or would amendments to it facilitate realization of the TPPA’s benefits. This review suggests that several sets of labour laws in Malaysia must be amended and that the government of Malaysia will face constraints and challenges in complying with international labour standards as provided under the TPPA.
