Given the rising purchasing power and quality of life among families and the fact that not much work has been done on exploring these family-friendly policies and their implementation, this study aims to uncover the extent to which these family-friendly policies are implemented in Malaysia. This study utilised a descriptive method using qualitative data from historical writings, tourism reports and studies that mentioned the participation of family tourists. This study revealed that while limitations on implementations and policies with regard to family tourism exist many of the tourism policies are directly facilitating this segment, especially at the national level, the tourism providers’ level and the family unit. It is imperative that the setting up of a comprehensive guideline on family-friendly destination be realized to ensure the sustainability of family tourism and to create real meaning for family vacation.
