As a contribution to the protection of groundwater resource, we mapped areas of groundwater vulnerability to pollution for the alluvial aquifer of the plain of Mitidja within Blida area, Algeria. The method applied to undertake this work is called DRASTIC model, based on the major hydrogeological factors that affect and control groundwater flow: depth to groundwater, net recharge, Aquifer media, Soil media, Topography, Impact of the unsaturated zone and hydraulic Conductivity. These factors are represented by numerical values that lead to a final DRASTIC index. GIS software is used to find out the water vulnerable zones. The study shows that more than 80% of the city’s groundwater is under medium to high vulnerability level. ER -
