Thus without prior knowledge of network topology, Broadcasting provides an indispensable means of communication in ad hoc networks. However, as radio signals are likely to overlap with others in a geographical area, straightforward broadcasting by flooding usually result in redundant retransmission, contention, and collision, referred to as broadcast storm problem (Ni et al., 1999). A number of routing protocols have been put forward recently to alleviate broadcast storm problem. But all of them either lack reachability and or involves high computational overhead. This paper presents a Gradient Broadcasting Protocol that provides an alternate and improved method of broadcasting with reduced retransmission, high reachability, and low power and bandwidth consumption as shown by the simulation results.
