In this study, an ELISA method was established with a mixture of esat-6 and cfp-10 as the diagnostic antigens. ELISA tests on 160 bovine serum samples (80 from cattle with BTB; 80 from healthy cattle) demonstrated that the sensitivity was 76.3% (61/80) and the specificity was 97.5% (78/80). A further screening test using ELISA and PPD was conducted with 335 serum samples collected at random from eight dairy herds (5 problematic herds and 3 BTB-negative herds) in Guangdong, China. In the problematic herds, the positive ELISA rate was 7.9% (16/202) for anti-esat-6 and cfp-10 antibodies and 5.4% (11/202) in the PPD. This study demonstrated that ELISA with the use of the esat-6 and cfp-10 mixture of antigens is simple and sensitive and can be used to analyze large numbers of samples for the serodiagnosis of BTB.} }
