Among the most important factors are the genetic and environmental factors. One of the strongest pieces of evidence for the genetic basis of cancer at the cellular level is the observation that nearly all cancers are monoclonal in origin that is all of the cancer cells in an individual patient can be shown to have arisen from a single original precursor cell.
