Thirty-four non-lactating Awassi ewes were randomly assigned to two groups, treated with fluorogestone acetate (FGA group, n = 19) or controlled internal drug release devices (CIDR group, n = 15) for 12 days. After pessary and sponges removal, all ewes received an intramuscular injection of 300 IU. eCG. There was no significant differences between treatments for ewes in estrus (FGA: 84.2%, CIDR: 86.6%). The onset of estrus from progestagen treatments, FGA and CIDR groups was (mean±S.D.) 45.00±1.00 and 36.00±3.40, respectively. Interval from the cessation of treatment to the onset of estrus was significantly (p<0.05) longer in FGA, compared to the CIDR. The duration of the induced estrus period did not differ significantly between in 2 treatment groups. Pregnacy rate did not differ (p>0.05) between FGA (52.63%) and CIDR (60.00%). As a result, Estrus synchronization with FGA and CIDR is found to be similar, although the onset time of estrus varies with the use of FGA or CIDR.
