This study is therefore, aimed at evaluating the effects of Minna abattoir wastes on the receiving stream by analyzing the physical and chemical parameters of water samples taken at 3 different sites: Upstream (US), at the point where, the abattoir waste meets with the stream (PS) and Downstream (DS) during the wet season of 2006. The results of the water analyses showed the various ranges of values obtained as follows: turbidity (43.0, 58.0 and 55.0 FTU), odour (odourless, offensive and slight odour), iron content (0.91, 0.52 and 0.55 mg L 1), total alkalinity (164.0, 104.0 and 90 mg L 1) and pH values were 6.8, 8.8 and 6.8 for US, PS and DS, respectively. These values are at variance with the allowable limits of the World Health Organization (WHO) for drinking water. The results showed that the abattoir effluent has lowered the quality of the receiving Tayi stream. ER -
