Descriptive statistic and Maximum Livelihood Estimate (MLE) using Stochastic Frontier Production Model were used to analyze the data obtained from 120 sample farmers. The data were collected with the aid of a structured questionnaire. The estimated sigma square (σ2) and gama (γ) are very significant for the maize crop and showed that 84% of the variation in output of maize among the farms was due to the differences in the technical efficiency. The result indicate that the farmers were not fully technically efficient, technical inefficiency scores indicate a mean efficiency ratio of 84% implying that substantial inefficiency exists among the maize farmers in the study area. It was also revealed that the inefficiency effects among the farmers are influenced by farmer’s age, education and their farming experience. ER -
