Residue management significantly (p 0.05) affected uptake of K, Ca and Mg on plots with burnt-in situ residue. Uptake of N, P, K and Mg was quantitatively higher in surface mulch plots in the second year than other residue management plots. During the second year of planting the surface mulched plots increase grain yield of maize at a positively higher percentage (26.5%) than any other residue management. This shows that residue management using surface mulch was an effective nutrient source for sustaining soil management and improving yield of maize. ER -
