In the present study, the anti-inflammatory properties of total hydro-alcoholic extract isolated from pomegranate seed were investigated in formalin-induced rat paw edema. The studied male Wistar albino rats (n = 30) were divided into 5 groups. Inflammation was created by injection of formalin (2.5%) intraplantarily. Then different doses of extract (100, 200, 400 mg kg-1) were injected in 3 groups, indomethacin (5 mg kg-1) was injected in 4th group and control group received 5 mL of normal saline intraperitoneally. About 1-3 h after injection of the extract, indomethacin and saline, the volume of paw was measured in all groups by plethysmometer. The results showed hydro-alcoholic extract of pomegranate seed has dose-dependent anti-inflammatory effect and the highest anti-inflammatory effect was observed in the dose of 400 mg kg-1. ER -
