Lymphocyte responsiveness would transform to a dysfunctional state in the generation of various subsets of cells as reflected in autoimmune phenomena. It is in terms of a dysfunctionality ranging in scope from primary generation of the lymphocyte subset to subsequent creation of a whole panorama of responsive influences and pathologic lesions that autoimmunity would evolve further as a self-generated reactivity in its own right. Indeed, oligoclonality of antibody production in the cerebrospinal fluid of multiple sclerosis patients would arise as a phenomenon both primarily generated in terms of dysfunctional lymphocyte turnover and as a secondary process in the progression of such primary autoimmune reactivity exposing native myelin epitopes.
