Ordinary muscles showed significantly higher contents of moisture, crude protein and ash with lower crude fat compared to dark muscles. There were significant differences in the percentages of total saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids. Inhibition of AGS cell proliferation was highest with the treatment of 1.0 mg mL-1 acetone/methylene chloride extract of dark muscles. Extracts of ordinary muscles induced weak inhibitory effect on the proliferation of HT-29 cell line. In addition, the extracts of ordinary and dark muscles decreased cellular Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) of HT-1018 cells in comparison to the control cells. Thus, the data suggested that yellowtail muscle may have beneficial effects on cancer development and cellular oxidation and particularly dark muscles have higher inhibitory effect on growth of cancer cells.} }
